New York foodies who find themselves with spare spending
cash are being offered a particularly pricey pastry: a $100 doughnut covered in
24-karat gold flakes.
The Manila Social Club, a Brooklyn eatery owned by Filipino
brothers Bjorn De La Cruz and Samuel Ware, unveiled The Golden Cristal Ube
Donut in an Instagram post that gave the public a first look at the confection,
as well as revealing its $100 price tag.
The doughnut contains ube, a purple yam found in several of
The Manila Social Club's dishes, as well as vintage Cristal, 24-karat edible
gold flakes and gold dust.
