1.2 Brief History of SIWES in Nigeria
SIWES,
which means Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme was created to help
Nigerian students get practical knowledge and wide horizons based on their
future profession while they are still studying at the University.
It
was so that students who entered Nigerian institutions to study science and
technology didn’t have any practical knowledge before graduation. As a result,
getting a job was quite difficult for them due to lack of industrial skills and
working experience until 1973.
