Manchester United
striker Wayne Rooney has been named England's Player of the Year after a
historic 2015 on the international stage.
Rooney,
who wears the captain's armband for both club and country, netted five
times in eight appearances for the Three Lions last year and broke Reds
legend Sir Bobby Charlton's long-standing record to become England's
all-time top scorer with 50 goals.
The 30-year-old garnered 37
per cent of the votes cast via the England Supporters Club website to
finish above fellow shortlisted players Joe Hart, Gary Cahill, Raheem
Sterling and Harry Kane. It's the second successive year that Rooney has
won the award and the fourth time overall.
Rooney's Reds
team-mate Jesse Lingard had been nominated for the England Under-21
Player of the Year award after starring at the European Championship in
Czech Republic last summer, but he missed out to Stoke City goalkeeper
Jack Butland.
