UEFA Player of the Year, Ronaldo make the final three


The winner will be announced on 24 August during the draw for the Champions League group stage.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the three candidates for the UEFA Player of the Year award.

The Portuguese forward hopes to win the award for the third time, with the presentation being made on Thursday 24 August during the draw for the group stage of the Champions League. As well as the Real Madrid forward, the other two candidates are Messi and Buffon.

The Whites´ striker had another great season in which he scored 42 goals for Real Madrid and had a spectacular end to the season, scoring important goals in the big matches. Ronaldo was a key part of the squad on the way to winning la Duodécima with hat-tricks against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid as well as the brace in the Cardiff final. In the domestic competition he also played a big part in winning the league by scoring in the last three matches.

Choosing the finalists
The jury for this award is made up of 55 journalists representing the UEFA member associations and 80 coaches who took part in the Champions League and the Europa League in the 2016/17 season. Coaches can’t vote for players from their own team.
