1. File sharing is very easy on telegram.Anyone can share files of size 100 MB or more whereas whatsapp can share very low size file( Default file size is 16 MB but you can increase it up to 30 MB).For bigger size files whatsapp can share only the link to the file which is not good.
2. Telegram has more functions which can keep you entertained e.g trivia bot, facts, quizz , photo /video editing etc… these features are not available in Whatsapp
3. Telegram Messenger have huge number of fun smileys and emoticons than whatsapp .
4. Unique thing about Telegram is that it has a secret chat option which will enable the user to keep the chat conversation secret.In other words Telegram has more privacy. on the other side whatsapp have a unique feature of voice calling as well as low data usage mode. It also has backup service integrated to Google Drive. so you do not have to worry about losing your chat data when you change your phone.
5. Last but not the least, Telegram can access your messages from all of your devices at the same time whereas in Whatsapp you can access it from only one device at a time
Whatsapp is just up there because of the traffic they have acquired over the years, with that amount of traffic its easy to grow the users .I think if whatsapp came at the same time as Telegram then telegram would have excelled.
